Introducing TEFL

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and is a certificate you can gain to enable you to teach English to foreign language speakers.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg; if you delve a bit further you will see that it means so much more.

What is TEFL?

For many it can mean travel, an experience, a new opportunity, a new skill, a new country and a new life – or it can just be a piece of paper. You need to take advantage of your TEFL certificate course and get the most out of it. It will mean moving to a new country, meeting new people, making new friends, getting a new job, finding a new place to live and taking on a different lifestyle.

This can seem like the biggest deal and the most daunting of tasks to some people or for others it comes more naturally and just ‘happens’. Whichever way you look at it you need to take a moment to appreciate what you are doing and be aware of all the opportunities that are available to you.

How Does it work?

To become and English teacher in a foreign country you should follow these steps:

  1. Apply for a TEFL course.
  2. Study hard and complete several hours of hands-on teaching practice.
  3. Take advantage of our careers service – update your CV, practice for job interviews, apply for jobs, make contacts.
  4. Obtain your TEFL certificate.
  5. Land your first teaching job!

You will be given plenty of help and guidance from day one, including the practicalities of being in a foreign country. As well as training we can help you with finding a flat, opening a bank account, finding private classes and advice on your first job.

Once you complete the course and get TEFL certified you will be ready to launch yourself into the job market. You could find yourself working in a language academy teaching adults, you could teach business English, you could do after-school teens classes or you could work on a kid’s summer camp. The list is endless! Language learning is a continual process and your skills will be in demand all year round.

TEFL courses are fun, challenging, interesting and potentially life changing – you could soon be on your way to the other side of the world to start a new job!
